WHO:
The event is organized by Creative District partners—the City of North Adams, MASS MoCA, MCLA, 1Berkshire, North Adams Partnership, Greylock WORKS, TOURISTS, Christo’s Famous Pizza, Tres Ninos, Moresi Associates, and Scarafoni Associates— and made possible with support from MassDevelopment and the Barr Foundation, with participation and support from local businesses, property owners, artists, students, neighborhood and civic organizations, and community members.
WHY:
North Adams was selected by MassDevelopment and the Barr Foundation to launch a three-year Creative District pilot that uses arts, culture, and creativity as drivers of equitable economic growth. The initiative brings dedicated staff capacity, technical assistance, flexible funding, and cross-sector collaboration to support downtown revitalization, small businesses and creative entrepreneurs, and projects that strengthen the city’s economy and quality of life.
The Community Cleanup Day is designed as a tangible “quick win”, introducing the new Creative District to the community while bringing people together to take visible, collective action.
The cleanup is part of the Creative District’s three-year work plan and is intended to be both a highly visible improvement project and a starting point for ongoing community participation and stewardship.
